Wellington - The Duke

The Duke!!!  This is one of my all time favorite wines!!!  So fabulous and THE BEST bang for your buck!  It's a blend that changes every year, depending on what is available and what is good.

Wellington is a small winery in Glen Ellen, California on the Sonoma side of Wine Country.  The first time my husband and I visited the winery was on our honeymoon when we were staying at The Glen Ellen Inn very close by.  Glen Ellen is the tiniest town, but so quaint and wonderful.  You really feel like this is where the locals go when you're there.  And don't even get me started on The Glen Ellen Inn!  So affordable and such a yummy restaurant!

Here's the wine with a light dinner of Mozzarella/Chorizo Crostini with Bruschetta:

Wellington
"The Duke 9"
Red Table Wine
List Price: $8.00

The Duke is a simple red table wine that is so much more complex than any other blend you'll have for only $8!  Wellington doesn't distribute much and I don't think they distribute "The Duke" at all, so you have to buy it either at the vineyard or order it online.  When we went the first time we bought six bottles and the second time we visited we bought a whole case and definitely will continue to buy a case every year they have it.  There is always concern that they may not continue the wine...it's released every fall and they usually sell out!

Here are some things that came to mind when I sipped this lovely blend: juicy, fruity, full-bodied, lightly spicy, blackberries and oh so tasty!  It's the perfect wine to drink with your friends who don't drink much wine or with those friends who know a bit more about wine.
